After several months of beta testing, DirecTV has launched its whole-home DVR service nation wide, offering customers control of up to 15 sets via a single DVR box.
Priced at $3 monthly, the service allows customers with a DirecTV Plus HD DVR receiver (models HR24, HR20 and-HR23 with DECA networking technology) to view recorded content on multiple sets throughout the home. Customers must also pay $10 monthly for HD service and $7 monthly for DVR service.
Theoretically the system can link up to 15 TV sets via coaxial cable or Ethernet connections, but the central DVR only allows simultaneous recording of up to two shows while viewing two other live TV shows, according to DirecTV. Customers also can add Western Digital or Seagate external storage drives to increase storage capacity. Other features include:
• Access to a single combined playlist of all recorded programs from any connected TV.
• DVR controls in every room, allowing users to record, delete, pause and rewind recorded programs.
• Stop a recorded show in one room and resume viewing in another room.
• Manage the DVR playlist from any connected TV.
• Set individual parental control restrictions for each TV.
• Watch recorded shows in HD in any room, provided each TV has an HD receiver.
