Dish offers HD “Free for Life,” raises some rates

Monday, June 07, 2010

Dish Network instituted two small scale rate increases and launched a new HD “Free for Life” promotion on June 3.

The company raised rates on its America’s Top 200 and America’s Top 250 tiers by $2 each, with the packages rising to $54.99 per month and $64.99 per month, respectively. Pricing for America’s Top 120, 120+ and America’s “Everything” Pak remains the same.

While most multichannel video providers adjusted programming rates in early 2010, Dish adjusted pricing only on its equipment, not on any of its program packages in the first quarter.

The June 3 rate increases amount to less than 4%.

Separately, the company started offering HD Free for Life. Existing non-HD subs can get HD Free for Life with a 24-month commitment and Autopay Paperless Billing or a $99 HD Programming Upgrade Fee. Existing subs who have the $10/HD package and Platinum prior to June 3 will automatically get “HD Free for Life” without any new requirements.

Dish also kept in place its current $15 off for 12 months promotion. It’s also offering HBO and Showtime free for three months if consumers sign up for AutoPay with Paperless Billing.
